Lasater was born near Goliad in 1860 and founded the town of Falfurrias in 1883. With the help of San Antonio banker George Brackenridge he became a pioneer western cattleman who held an early enthusiasm for Brahman cattle. His interest in dairying led to the world's largest herd of jersey milk cows. He ran for governor of Texas on ther progressive ticket in 1912. His descendants continue to development progressive and new methods of ranching in the harsh and challanging climate of South Texas. Falfurrias - "Land of Heart's Desire." Includes W.B. Yeats Gaelic play by the same name.
