A superb catalogue (often referred to simply as 'PMM') is the best edition of a key bibliographical reference whose origins lie in a major exhibition held in 1963 to illustrate the "impact of print on the evolution of western civilization during five centuries." There is an interesting new introduction by Percy Muir, 550 new bibliographies or bibliographical references been added in a separate section by Dr Peter Amelung; a list of corrigenda to the 1967 edition is added; and more than 330 errors and misprints in the original index have been corrected, while none of the content of the first edition has been lost. Great care went into the choice of the "landmark books" described here, the aim of which was to illustrate the appearance in print of "new concepts in philosophy, religion, and politics; in economics, jurisprudence.
