One of the most important of all the early printed views of San Antonio. Reflects the high standard European engravers had achieved in this art by the 19th century. B/W copper engraving image size 5x6 1/2 inches and was made from on the spot observation and then sent to Germany for engraving and published there in an attempt to appeal to the prospective German emigrant and to show families of Germans who had already emigrated what life in Texas was like. This view shows a bridge over the San Antonio river with San Fernando Cathedral and American flag. There are a number of houses, and public buildings, people and horse & cart. See items 298. & 301 for additional 19th Century Texas city views.
