Comments: "The best history of the three centuries of Spanish and Mexican Texas." - Jenkins. Castaneda consulted, and many times discovered, hitherto obscure and inaccessible sources, including accounts of early explorations in the 16th century not treated by competent historians prior to this work. As many reviewers pointed out, the title gave a limited view of the contents, since Castenada was comprehensive in his coverage of early Texas history. BASIC TEXAS BOOKS 27.
